About CBS

CBS Rentals, LLC was formed in 1972 with the mission of providing University of Virginia students with a variety of housing options within walking distance to Grounds. This mission has been advanced through the acquisition and renovation of over 50 historic and residential properties, as well as the development of 10 boutique apartment communities near the University of Virginia.

Over the past 40 years CBS Rentals has maintained a diverse portfolio to cover a variety of student housing needs, from large group houses (5-15 tenants) to boutique apartments (2-6 tenants). CBS Rentals now houses over 1,200 tenants annually and will be expanding in Summer 2013 with the additions of The Warehouse and The Grove Annex.

Hospitality House

In 1992, CBS Rentals developed the Blue Cottage Apartments located at 205 14th Street. Two years later the National Council of the Multi-Housing Industry distinguished the Blue Cottage Apartments, awarding it "The Best Small Apartment Project" in the United States. In 2008, CBS Rentals leased the Blue Cottage Apartments to the University of Virginia to serve as the new home of the Hospitality House, housing cancer patients and their families during extended treatment.

Georgia O'Keeffe House

CBS Rentals has a strong dedication to the preservation of Historic properties. In 1999, CBS Rentals purchased and restored the The Georgia O'Keeffe House located at 1212 Wertland Street. Currently, CBS Rentals has renovated 12 houses on the National Register of Historic Places dating as far back as 1829.

The Greenhouse

In 2011, The Greenhouse was completed and holds the distinction of being the first LEED Silver designed student housing apartment in central Virginia. The City of Charlottesville Planning Commission named the Greenhouse "Outstanding Sustainable Development" and it was a nominee for "Best Housing Development" in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It features solar voltaic panels for house lighting, water saving plumbing fixtures, EnergyStar Appliances, Permeable Pavers and 13 SEER Heat/AC pumps.

CBS Rentals has a strong commitment to resident safety and consequently has pioneered the "Off-Grounds Blue Light Project" through a Charlottesville Matching Funds Grant program. CBS Rentals worked with the University of Virginia, Corner Neighborhood Association and City of Charlottesville to bring the Emergency Blue Light phone service (identical to those used On-Grounds) into Off-Grounds student community areas throughout the Corner District. CBS Rentals is proud to support this initiative that will benefit University students and the Corner Neighborhood for years to come.
